Possible Growths on Testicles

Has anyone ever had a male squirrel with what looks like growths on the inside of the testicles? They started out like two small round balls and have gotten bigger. He is a released one and looks like he may be loosing weight.
He comes back to eat though. I also read on one of the posts that if you release 4 or 5 that you would probably have only one survive to the next year. Is that true? Those odds don't seem too good. I was discouraged with that. Thank you for any answers to my questions.

Is there any way you could get a picture? I have had many males squirrels w/ different looking testicles. Some are very small and you can hardly see them and others are huge and more oval rather than round. Squirrels due have the ability to retract their testicles when they are not in mating season so sometimes it looks like they don't even have any and then they magically appear. As far as the death rate, it is true that many will die in the first year, but I try to pay no attention to that. I try as best as I can to raise them healthy and wait until they are a little older to release so that their natural instincts kick in. It gives them a better chance at survival. I also provide many nest boxes and several feeders in my yard so that they are healthy and there isn't as much competition for food and housing. It gives the babies a better start so they don't have to fight right out the door.

Thank you for your reply. I am so upset. Not sure I can do this again. I just get too attached to them. Two of them have already disappeared. I kept them until they were almost 9 mos. They have been out for about 6 or 7 weeks. Plenty of food is out and I have two nest boxes up that they have been using. Now the male has come back with blood coming from his nose two different times. This is just breaking my heart. I'm not sure I can get a picture of his testicles where you can see but I will try. They may be shaped more like you described and not round. Thank you so much to all of you who love and care for these precious babies.

I really think it would be easier if our members shared some of their close ups of male squirrel testicles, to show you what normal looks like, than you try to get a pic of this squirrel in questions ones yourself. So members please share those pics here of normal ones, so this member can then compare them to see if the male they see this on is normal or not. If not normal, capturing it, and having it neutered may save it's life; bt first things first. Please members spread the word what we are looking for here, and provide that, as you always do , to help this member out. S1

Have a look at Bean. I had the thought that maybe it isn't a growth "on" the testicles but a growth "of" the testicles. They can be pretty big and change size depending on, well, depending on something.

Hi there..Im sorry it has taken me so long to get on here..I will post some pictures for you of my adult male grey..he is an inside squirrel..he too..had these teeny tiny nothings..then I swear it as ALMOST over night them THINGS..grew over night! My husband bought me some CoCo Chanel..pheramones..I think is what did it..
They are now BLACK..and more LONG and black kind of like those long green grapes..(seedless grapes)

Ps..Bean also went through a period where his fur looked horrible..a bad shed..and he lost weight too..I was very worried..BUT he was just fine just going throught the changes of a squirrel's life of becoming an adult..

I wouldn't assume that they are dead if they have disappeared. The males migrate to new places for instinctual reasons. They can't all stay in one place because there are not enough resources, but also because they need to mix up the genetics all the time. They are very territorial, and they can migrate for as much as five miles in any direction. I get upset when my buddies move on, too, from my backyard, but that's just how it is. They grow up and they move away. They can't stick around just because they like the old lady down the street that gives them treats! Mother squirrels will even chase their male offspring away after a while, if they don't get moving along by themselves. As for a bloody nose, given the way the males fight, that just may mean he is out there contending for a mate so that he can make more little squirrels with his big bad genes. Wild is wild.

I couldn't raise them and release them either, unless they went to a place like Tomo's where I knew they had the best chance that Mother Nature intended, and I would not be looking for them every day. So don't feel bad about being tender-hearted. It's hard being a mother squirrel when you are not a squirrel.
